Council Wi-Fi now available in city centre

Council’s free Wi-Fi is now available for public use in Esk Street with plans underway for it to be available in Queens Park before Christmas.

There are now three Council public access points for Wi-Fi in Esk Street. People can access it by selecting “ICCPublicWiFi” on their electronic device. There is a limit of 2gb per day or 8 hours usage, with Wi-Fi being reset at 12pm every night.

Wi-Fi will be installed in two locations in Queens Park; one will be in the Childrens’ Playground and another next to The Cheeky Llama Cafe.

Council’s Finance and Policy Committee Chair, Councillor Darren Ludlow, said Council also planned to install Wi-Fi in parts of Don, Tay and Dee Streets early next year.

“The Wi-Fi enables connectivity when you’re out enjoying Invercargill’s assets. It allows residents and tourists to share their experiences and provides more reasons to visit. It’s also a way of ensuring parents and tech-savvy teenagers can keep in touch and helps the vibrancy of our family friendly city centre.”
