Completion of Bluff’s newest adventure park is only a few months away, with ongoing discussions about the trail and park names set to wrap up this month.
The newly named Motupōhue Adventure Park will consist of more than 10km of mountain bike and walking tracks of varying expertise levels across Bluff Hill Motupōhue including an accessible walking trail.
New tracks are being constructed, as well as upgrades to existing ones.
As well as the trails, a new car park, toilet block and bike wash area off Pearce St at the base of the hill are almost complete.
Earlier this month, a report was presented to Council after being deliberated with the Bluff Community Board, which discussed names for each of the trails and for the precinct itself.
There are proposed names for 16 existing trails and 11 newly created trails. The names proposed are a combination of existing names, things significant to Bluff, and plants and insects that are prevalent in the area.
Council has been working closely with Te Ao Mārama Inc, Bluff Hill Motupōhue Environmental Trust and the Southland Mountain Bike Club to help decide on the names.
Council Manager Parks and Recreation Caroline Rain said it had been amazing to watch the Adventure Park take shape.
“This will be a real asset to Bluff and an opportunity to show off our region.
“The fact that just about anybody with any ability will be able to use this Park is phenomenal. Not only is it a chance to be out in nature, but there will be spectacular views that you can’t get anywhere else.”
It was a real testament to those involved with the Park that it had got to this point so quickly and on schedule, Rain said.
Once the report has been adopted, signage will be developed and installed ahead of the official opening later in the year.
