Southlanders will have the opportunity to mix with royalty when Prince Harry makes a brief stop in Invercargill this weekend, the Southland Times reports.
Invercargill City Council Chief Executive Richard King said there would be a window of “about five minutes” for members of the public to meet the prince before he boards a flight to Stewart Island on Sunday morning.
Prince Harry would be officially welcomed to the city by Mayor Tim Shadbolt and Ngai Tahu representative Mark Solomon at Invercargill Airport about 10.55am, he said. A performance of the haka and introductions to local MPs and Council representatives would follow.
“After that, when he comes down the stairs there will be a brief opportunity for members of the public to see him for about five minutes,” Mr King said. “Space will be very limited and obviously there will be people coming and going on legitimate airport business, so anyone who wants to see him should arrive as early as possible.”
