Councillors hear city block submissions

The people of Invercargill have had their say on the future of Wachner Place and Esk Street West, restructuring the financing of City Block and a new CCTV policy.

The Invercargill City Council’s Moving Forward with City Block and City Centre Streets Consultation closed on 14 October, with 173 submissions gathered from the public.

Council Manager Strategy, Policy and Engagement Rhiannon Suter said the community were asked to give their thoughts on three proposed options that would make up the second stage of the City Streets Project.

The community were also invited to give feedback on the structure of financial support for the Invercargill Central mall, as well as the development of a new CCTV policy for the city, Suter said.

“Councillors received the submissions for deliberation and heard from 17 people who chose to speak at the City Block West hearings, which took place on Tuesday, 24 October,” she said.

Council will make their decisions on the proposals at an extraordinary meeting of Council on Tuesday 7 November.
