It is recommended that paint colours of heritage buildings are to be in keeping with the era of the building and within the approved palette, particularly if you plan to apply for the Invercargill City Centre Repainting Fund or the City Centre Built Heritage Fund. It is recommended that owners choose a single colour for the building plus one or two accent colours (which could be of the same tone).
Decorative elements were often painted lighter colours to greater emphasize the three-dimensional effect of the plaster decoration.
The ICC Approved Colour Palette consists of:
- Dulux Heritage Collection
- Resene Heritage Colours
- Resene Whites & Neutrals
- Resene BS5252 (A01-C40 range)
- Other paint suppliers may also be used provided the selected colours are similar to those within the above palettes.
Please contact Council’s Urban Design and Heritage Planner, Shannon Baxter, at 03 211 1777 or heritage@icc.govt.nz to discuss your colour scheme.
