This summer, Invercargill City Libraries is suggesting an escape of a different kind with the Summer Reading Challenge.

Tamariki aged 0-12 and 13, and rangatahi aged 12-18 are being invited to take part in the 2023 Great Escape challenge to spend 24 days taking time to read or complete literary-related challenges.

Each day they complete some reading or a suggested reading activity will bring them one step closer to completing the challenge and collecting a free book as an acknowledgement of their hard work. There are also opportunities to enter a draw to score some amazing prizes.

Manager Invercargill Libraries Manager Kathy Aloniu said this challenge was posed as an adventurous approach to reading.

“The summer holidays are spread across quite a few weeks, which means a long time away from school and that learning environment. The Summer Reading Challenge has been designed to support our tamariki and rangatahi on their reading journey to keep their skills up while out of the classroom.

“This is also an opportunity to spend some quality time with family and whanāu, and have some fun on a literary adventure.”

The challenge runs through summer until 31 January 2024. Information packs can be picked up from the Invercargill and Bluff libraries or found on the library website here School Holidays – Invercargill City Libraries and Archives (ilibrary.co.nz).
