The Bluff Community Board subcommittee has chosen six people to be the recipients of its annual Bursary for 2025.
The receivers are Sian Tarrant, Thaeya Hoyle, Nathaniel Sutherland, Claire Phillipson, Nathan MacNaughton, and Irene Fowler.
Bluff Community Board and subcommittee member Tammi Topi said there was a high number of candidates this year, so they decided to spread the funds as wide as possible across the strongest applicants.
“It is very encouraging to see so many Bluff locals applying to the Bursary, and it is a privilege to be part of the deciding panel. We love seeing members of the community committing to further education,” she said.
“There was a vast range of education fields being undertaken, including teaching, engineering, psychology, and social work.”
The Bluff Community Board offers locals a $2000 annual Bursary for up to three years to support tertiary education within New Zealand. This year, the funds were divided uniquely because of the number of recipients.
Established over a decade ago, this Bursary aims to facilitate higher education opportunities for the Bluff community. Past recipients have pursued successful careers in law, accounting, teaching, nursing, engineering, probation services, and physiotherapy.
Eligible candidates must be enrolled or applying for full-time study at a New Zealand university or other approved educational institution. Applications open each November, with recipients selected by a panel consisting of the Board Chairman and two Board members.
