The Scottish Hall is a cherished venue situated in the heart of Invercargill.
Designed by Invercargill architects Edward Haining Smith and Russell Rice, it was built in 1957 as a memorial to the pioneering Scottish settlers in Invercargill and wider Southland.
Today, the iconic venue is community owned and operated by the Invercargill City Council and is available for hire for your next community event, party, wedding, live show, training, or team meeting.

What Facilities Does The Scottish Hall Offer?
This venue is decorated to reflect its rich Scottish heritage, providing an authentic and sophisticated ambiance for any occasion.
It also features:
- A spacious hall with a stage, ideal for performances or presentations, seating up to 200 people.
- A welcoming Community Lounge, perfect for seating groups of 30-50 people.
- A fully equipped kitchen
- Equipped bar area
- Tables and chairs (please enquire about configuration and set up options)
While alcohol, cooking utensils, plates, cups, cutlery, glassware or sound, lighting and audio equipment are not supplied by us at The Scottish Hall, we can connect you with reputable providers.

Accessibility: Access to The Scottish Hall is via the front stairs; side access with steps to the left of the building; and mobility access is located on the left side at the rear of the building going in at ground level.
Parking: Adjacent to The Scottish Hall is a large Council-owned public car park at 108 Esk Street:

What is the Scottish Hall Booking Policy?
To secure your booking, you will need to sign a contract and pay a deposit. Our deposit amounts are flexible and vary based on the size of your event.
Hirers are responsible for cleaning our space and leaving it in a satisfactory manner. In the event additional cleaning is required after your event, cleaning costs may be deducted from your deposit.
Plan ahead and secure your preferred date – bookings are available up to three years in advance.
Can I Have a Ticketed Event at the Scottish Hall?
Our ticket provider, Ticketek, is happy to help should you wish to have a paid event. Fees may apply.
Catering
The Scottish Hall offers flexible catering options. You are welcome to self-cater or, if you prefer, we can connect you with our trusted catering partners. Catering your event with options like delicious platters, morning tea, or an elegant dinner will set your event apart from the rest.
What is the Scottish Hall’s Alcohol Policy?
Any sale of alcohol requires a special liquor licence, which you can apply for here: Alcohol Licensing
The Scottish Hall is within the Invercargill City Council liquor ban area, prohibiting alcohol consumption outside the venue.
