Government has provided Council with the powers to allow shops to open on Easter Sunday. In order for a decision to be made before Easter 2017, Council will need to draft a policy for consideration before mid-December 2016. We are seeking feedback to see if this is something that retailers, restaurateurs and the general public would be interested in seeing changed. If you would like more information email policy@icc.govt.nz.

Note: Under Government legislation employees are allowed to refuse to work on Easter Sunday if they do not want to, with no reason required.
