Warning for people using public parks and walking tracks

UPDATE: 23 MAY

The following tracks are now open to the public following last week’s closures:

  • Otatara scenic reserve
  • Topuni track
  • Seaward bush
  • The part of the estuary walkway that is used for the Te Araroa trail is open. (The bridge has been checked by an engineer and it has no damage)

However, the Estuary Walkway board walk remains closed.

Three sections of the platform have been badly damaged, and this work needs to be planned and scheduled.

Multiple walking tracks in Invercargill and Bluff will remain closed due to this week’s weather event.

Closed tracks include:

  • Estuary Walkway
  • Seaward Bush Reserve
  • Topuni Track, Bluff

PLEASE NOTE – Just because there is no danger tape or signs up does not mean a track is safe.

Due to the nature of the storm and our extensive parks and reserves network, our staff simply have not been able to assess all of our tracks and reserves.

Please be vigilant if you are out and about in our green spaces this weekend.

Be aware of your surroundings, and with further wind predicted for the weekend we recommend you avoid forest locations.
