Mayor Tim Shadbolt officially opened the $12 million upgrade to the Branxholme water treatment plant on Monday when he turned on a fountain shaped as the newly created Invercargill brand device.
Councillor Lindsay Thomas, who chairs the Infrastructure Services Committee, said the upgrade of the water treatment plant was one of the most important and necessary projects for the well-being of residents.
The Southland Times reported him as saying that with the degradation of some of our waterways “it is imperative the Council keeps ahead of the game”. The huge financial cost to deliver the service to citizens would be well-worth the investment over the life of the plant, Cr Thomas said.
