Two Invercargill Youth Councillors are to become Youth MPs.
Danielle Carson and Stephen Jones will represent New Zealand First MP, Ria Bond and Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand MP, Dr Kennedy Graham respectively.
They will attend training at the beginning of their tenure, which runs from January 25, 2016 to July 25, 2016. They will also attend Youth Parliament on July 19- July 20, 2016.
The City Council’s Community Development Officer, Oliver Mortensen, said Miss Carson and Mr Jones had been members of the Youth Council for three years and were passionate about youth issues, had a strong interest in politics and were committed to doing their best in Youth Parliament.
“The Youth Council is pleased to have offered Danielle and Stephen leadership training and opportunities over the three years they have been members,” he said. “They have grasped every opportunity with enthusiasm and demonstrated that they have the support of the Youth Council and their peers.”
