An application has been received from the New Zealand Motor Caravan Association to lease an area of approximately 5,600m2 of land at Stead Street adjacent to the wharf for the association’s members to use. Part of this land is reclaimed infrastructure land and the other part is Reserve land.
The Management Plan for Stead Street does not allow for camping on the Reserve. Policy 3.19 Camping, of the Management Plan currently states that “camping is not permitted on reserves within this Management Plan”. It is proposed that this policy is amended to allow for camping specifically at Stead Street Reserve within the boundaries provided.
The Council is seeking feedback from the community on this proposal in accordance with section 41 of the Reserves Act 1977.
